Schenectady City School District
As part of this $135,000 million capital improvement project, Chazen is responsible for the design and administration of various site improvements to Schenectady City School District facilities. Site specific improvements that were completed under the 1st phase of construction included a 6,200-square foot second floor addition and stair tower; reconstruction of the existing parking lot and playground at the Howe Elementary School; reconstruction of the softball field, existing bus drop-off/loading area and employee parking lot; the construction of a new ADA accessible parking lot and softball field at Oneida Middle School; and reconfiguration of walks and driveways at the Mont Pleasant Middle School to provide a new bus loading and drop-off area. Exterior renovation of existing buildings also included improved ADA compliant entrances and various site and utility improvements. Improvements at the Van Corlaer Elementary School included miscellaneous drainage improvements to the ball field and playground as well as construction of a new ADA accessible entrance served by a new elevator.
In addition to those completed recently, Chazen is currently working on the design and bidding of the following:
Improvements at the Martin Luther King Jr. ES include hardscape and landscape renovations of 6 courtyards within the school, an addition to the library, installation of new sidewalks along Stueben Street, miscellaneous sidewalk repairs along the other streets surrounding the school, along with miscellaneous drainage improvements. Improvements at the Hamilton ES include reconstruction of the main entrance, stairs and sidewalks to accommodate a new ADA accessible entrance served by a new elevator, miscellaneous hardscape and landscape improvements to the campus, renovation of the existing playground located within the central courtyard, addition of two new stair towers, and miscellaneous sidewalk repairs along the streets surrounding the school, as well as drainage improvements in the northern courtyard. Improvements at the Pleasant Valley ES include reconstruction of two existing courtyards to accommodate new stair towers to provide ADA accessibility and improve student circulation to and from the bus loop. Project also included miscellaneous drainage improvements. Improvements at the Yates Arts-In-Education Magnet ES include reconstruction of the main entry to create an ADA accessible secure entry vestibule, pavement reconstruction of play area, misc sidewalk reconstruction, reconstruction/renovation of playgrounds, and miscellaneous athletic field improvements.
