男朋为什么在被窝里吃我的胸Chazen was selected by The Nature Conservancy to serve as a Technical Lead for the Water Access and Navigation chapter of a new Comprehensive Restoration Plan for the Hudson River. Chazen assembled Hudson River water access and navigation experts who together evaluated the River’s history, current trends, drivers and stressors associated with water access and navigation. The evaluation included mapping of resources using GIS.

Meetings were held with Nature Conservancy staff and other technical leads to discuss synergy and conflicts among the various technical components of the plan.

A 12-page summary was submitted to The Nature Conservancy to be incorporated into the finished Hudson River Comprehensive Plan document.

To lead the team, Chazen assembled related Hudson River water access and navigation experts who together evaluated federal and state significance, the history, current trends, drivers and stressors associated with Hudson River for Water Access and Navigation. Chazen’s GIS Staff researched data layers and assembled a map of all known water access locations along the River.

The expert team led by Chazen, developed a list of proposed action items and restoration targets to address commercial navigation, ports, safety, dredging, waterfront development and water access points associated with the Greenway and municipal locations along the River. Meetings were held with The Nature Conservancy Staff and other Technical Leads to discuss synergy and conflicts among the various Technical Components of the plan.

A 12-page team summary was finalized and submitted to The Nature Conservancy to be incorporated into the finished Hudson River Comprehensive Plan document.

Reservoir Monitoring

Chazen conducts water quality and reservoir condition monitoring at Mt. Kisco’s water supply reservoir. The reservoir used as the primary water supply for Mt. Kisco and is also enjoyed for catch and release fishing. Preserving the quality of water and understanding the significance of any changing conditions are priorities for this community.

男朋为什么在被窝里吃我的胸Chazen has for many years conducted routine water quality sampling, tributary flow gaging, and monitoring of reservoir salt loading entering Byram Reservoir, and provides the municipality with annual reports summarizing critical data conditions and offering management or monitoring recommendations. The ongoing monitoring program has evolved over time to stay focused on evolving critical performance priorities.

Stream Gaging

Chazen helped the Counties establish regional monitoring programs to identify and allow response to changing land uses and climate.

Dutchess County’s monitoring program prioritizes groundwater capacity monitoring, tracking groundwater levels in aquifers distributed across rainfall zones and in differing aquifers across the County. The data allows analysis of seasonal variability in light of annual precipitation, drought, or extreme wet periods. The County’s program includes two stream level gages in watersheds not gaged by USGS (United States Geological Survey), ensuring a broad coverage of stream flow management across the County’s dominant watersheds. In addition to designing and installing the monitoring program, Chazen conducts ongoing data acquisition and gage maintenance services and provides periodic condition updates to the County.

The Orange County Water Authority (OCWA) retained Chazen to establish a turnkey water level gaging program. Chazen helped with equipment selection and installation, and established the initial data acquisition program and schedule. The OCWA continues to successfully manages the gage network, collecting and archiving stream elevation data for various planning applications.

Raquette River Parks & Blueway Corridor

Chazen completed design and construction plans for Ives Park in the Village of Potsdam. The project included streambank restoration, construction of sidewalks and seating along the river, including an ADA compliant kayak and canoe launch, a new pedestrian circulation pathway, a new open-air farmer’s market pavilion, and re-vegetation of existing shoreline for erosion control and geese deterrent. 

男朋为什么在被窝里吃我的胸Ives Park is the centerpiece for a riverfront trail plan that includes wayfinding signage, urban art/sculptures, use of alternative paving materials, and lighting and banners to connect adjacent land uses, village streets and Route 11 to the Raquette River. In addition, the Ives Park and Riverfront Trail will connect to a regional Blueway Corridor along the Raquette River with mapping, informational campaigns, and additional access points developed by Chazen.

Fleischman’s Pier

Chazen worked with the City of Peekskill and an outside design engineer to develop a plan for the removal of the existing Fleischmann’s Pier and reconstruction of a new pier structure approximately 30 feet north of the existing pier. The new pier will be approximately 487-feet long and 11-feet wide, along the two floating docks for transient boats, and an ADA-compliant kayak launch. The new pier will be used for cruise, tour and transient boats ranging from 45-200 feet in length.

Chazen completed site survey and coordinated all permitting applications and coordination efforts including a Section 10 Navigable Waters Permit with the US Army Corps of Engineers, an Article 15 permit from the NYSDEC, endangered species reviews with the NYSDEC for bald eagle and sturgeon, an Essential Fish Habitat and Endangered Species Review with the National Marine Fisheries Service and review by New York State Coastal Zone for coastal consistency. Permits have been issued by the NYSDEC and are pending from the Corps of Engineers.

 

Stream Calming Design

The Lake George Association retained Chazen to perform a field investigation and stream calming assessment of an unnamed Class AAA tributary entering Lake George. The stream’s 300-acre watershed had become more developed, resulting in increased erosive conditions generating sedimentation and water quality impairments to Lake George and potential navigability issues at the stream’s lake outlet.

Chazen conducted a comprehensive field inventory of existing surface drainage conditions, and developed a GIS-based land cover data and watershed conditions file. From these, Chazen established a watershed-scale hydrologic model using HydroCAD, and developed and tested conceptual improvements to mitigate erosive forces/sedimentation and improve water quality.

Modeled improvements that benefitted stream flow were transferred to concept drawings and order of magnitude cost estimates were developed. Improvements included natural design erosion protection features to return stream hydrodynamics and visual appearance to original conditions.

Stream Connectivity Improvements

Chazen was hired by the Hudson River Estuary Program and New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission to provide public education and outreach, identification and screening of candidate correction sites, and preliminary design for specific priority dams and culverts in Hudson River tributaries. Barriers of particular concern were those which currently fully or partially limit movement of Herring and American Eel.

男朋为什么在被窝里吃我的胸Chazen evaluated selected existing culverts and dams for culvert connectivity restoration and barrier removal. Inspection and evaluation of culvert and dam structures included assessment of structural conditions and screening for ecological, aquatic and cultural resources. Chazen then prepared preliminary designs for realigned culverts and for removal of the dams to facilitate connectivity of aquatic natural resources and species. Corrective designs included preliminary costing information as well as identified permitting requirements and other supporting documentation, included geotechnical studies.

男朋为什么在被窝里吃我的胸Public outreach included press releases, radio announcements, case study submissions using Chazen’s website and public meetings. Chazen was particularly proud to be associated with New York’s plan to restore open-water flow of priority stream barriers in Hudson River tributaries.

Dixon Road Culvert Rehabilitation

男朋为什么在被窝里吃我的胸Chazen assisted the Town with evaluation of a deteriorating 84″ CMP culvert conveying Halfway Brook, a trout stream, under Dixon Road. Chazen designed the replacement culvert to include a riffle design to reduce stream velocity and thus facilitating trout movement. Chazen also provided construction administration and observation services.

Stream Condition Monitoring

Chazen monitored stream conditions at a new bridge crossing the East Branch of the Ausable River. The purpose of the review was to monitor, per the conditions of a Corps of Engineers permit, whether the new bridge construction caused changes to the stream’s geomorphology.

Chazen’s Stream Condition Assessment included surveyed documentation of the stream thalweg and cross sections upstream, downstream and at the new bridge. Chazen biologists completed a visual conditions assessment, documenting bed and bank conditions, examined areas of deposition or scour, and evaluated river substrate materials.

男朋为什么在被窝里吃我的胸During the review period, significant Hurricane Irene flooding occurred, warranting unique attention to post-flood documentation of scour and sediment transport. Chazen’s 2012 site visit documented significant hurricane related sediment transport and vegetative damage in the vicinity of the bridge.
