Slate Valley Trail
Working in concert with Washington County and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Chazen facilitated a community workshop in partnership with the Slate Valley Trail Committee and helped outline a trail implementation strategy. As part of this effort, Chazen completed a NYS CFA on behalf of the Town of Granville and the Slate Valley Trail Committee. The proposed trail is intended to provide a vitally important, multimodal link between the State of New York and Vermont. The Slate Valley Trail will offer recreational, open space and economic development opportunities. The southern extent of the Slate Valley Trail will connect with the Batten Kill Railroad, which terminates in the Village of Salem, and the Granville segment will connect with the existing Vermont D&H Rail Trail system, which is currently divided by the incomplete portion, with the State of New York. Ultimately, the 26-mile interstate trail system will extend from West Rupert to Castleton, Vermont, traversing the New York and Vermont border and connecting eight communities.
